"Free technology for teachers"

I just got done browsing a blog that had tons or resources on it for teachers!  Some of the stuff that was on there could be used for anyone, but the main audience is teachers and the websites and ideas are amazing!  Some of the things are things that I am currently doing but I am posting a link to an idea that I plan on stealing!  I use popsicle sticks with students names right now to randomly select students, but I like the idea of "wheel of names" instead, because then the students know for sure that it is random and do not think I am picking on them.  It is also engaging for them and I could see my students getting excited as they watch the wheel go around.  As far as making a blog specifically for my students, I think that is a great idea!  I would like to have a blog where I could post a lot of resources, links, and videos to help my students when I am unavailable.  I think it would be very beneficial for my students even as they move on to the next grades.

Screencast

The following link is a short screencast on how to solve one step equations with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  This is a great tool to use in classrooms with students who are virtual learners, or have to miss class for a reason but still need the instruction to complete assignments.  This tool also works great for students who may need to look back and refresh their memory once they are at home and do not have someone to help them.  The problems that I did on my screencast are the same ones that we are currently doing in my 6th grade math class, so this will be something that they can use when they get back from Easter break next week!

Animoto

The link will take you to my Animoto video, which is what I will use at the beginning of the school year to show the Respect and Responsibility expectations to my incoming 6th grade students.  Animoto was a little confusing to use at first, but after making a few slides I really started to like it!  There are so many themes and options that you can use with the free version.  I also really think the finished product looks great and I think it is something that will be informational and engaging for my new 6th grade students to watch.
